Gone Too Soon

GONE TOO SOON

Gone too soon is a phrase that comes to mind at this time
I never thought his life would be cut short before he reached his prime
He wasn’t perfect but then again neither am I
But when a crisis would surface he was right at my side
A few people would know a few weeks ago my vehicle would not start
In my time of need he rescued me and he did it with a kind heart
Whether it was a kind word I heard or a deed to be done
My friend had it in him that from work he would never run
He had a lot of problems and as a friend I tried to help solve them
Others only pretended to be his friend and said his problems didn’t involve them
But he didn’t make a fuss because he knew his true friends
Since he knew whom to trust, he knew I’d be there till the end
Unexpectedly the end came in the rain on a dark afternoon in May
A lighting bolt is what we were told that ended his life that day
Even though I try to keep my eyes dry, I can’t because he was a part of me
My big brother was like no other and I hope he rests in peace

My Destiny

My Destiny

I envision myself climbing this mountain we call life
Never quite reaching the top but one day getting it right
Since I control my own destiny, that day shan’t be much longer
For through my trials and tribulations, I’ve gotten even stronger
Having gone through learning experiences that will be forever treasured
I now have an inner strength that just cannot be measured
Rooted deep within my soul and in my soul are deep roots
I believe in me, so I am free so speak the truth
So whenever I hear someone say “what will be will be”
I must disagree you see, for I control my destiny.

Another Act Of Murder

ANOTHER ACT OF MURDER………We can prevent it.

I read the headlines only to find
Sad but true another act of murder
Another star that will no longer shine
Committed by a man no one has ever heard of
Should not someone had seen the warning signs
Sure some looked, but they should have looked further
I would like to think I would have, had the opportunity been mine
So perhaps in today’s headlines, one would not find yet another act of murder.

Ancestors

Ancestors

I never went to college, yet I share knowledge
Not a professor, just my ancestors to them I pay homage
Through their fears, I know they shed tears
Because they persevered, I am now here
I hold my head high as I reach for the sky
Pro black that’s a fact, no need to ask why as I
Face reality, I’ll conquer most adversaries
Destroying the slave mentality with a keen vocabulary
A non-violent soldier; I kill with only kindness
To me, a victory not contradictory as some would find this
They just don’t understand how I’m a man in this land
I’m not crying or dying, just trying the best I can
To show appreciation to the past generation
Success nothing less is my interpretation
So when you look into my eyes, no need to wonder why
I’m just a man with a plan yeah, I’m on the rise
But on the past I reflect, so I’ve come to expect
The worst to come first so I will accept Any challenges that may come, I will not run
It was survival upon my arrival, it will be till I’m done!

The Essence Of My Presence

The Essence Of My Presence

I feel joy when I destroy a stereotype that isn’t right
You think you know me? I’ll show thee, I’ll make you see the light
You may think I want to be a man on the corner
Selling drugs, getting no love; nah I don’t think I’m gonna
See the essence of my presence comes totally unexpected
For what you perceive me to be, in my mirror it is not reflected
If you study history then it’s not a mystery as to why I’m so driven
Constructive, productive is indicative of how I’m livin
So if you are amongst those who just don’t want to know
Stay confused for only you lose, I’ll continue to grow
See I’m positive I got a lot to give and I know you have doubts
So take the time to read between the lines to find out what I’m about
Since I was born I was warned that nothing in life comes free
So while you contemplate, I’ll concentrate on how to please me
Now if you try to deny you fill your head with lies
And while you think I’m going left I choose to go right
I’m a leader not a follower and all followers I’ll lead
The essence of my presence is my ability to succeed.

Men & Women Of Tomorrow

MEN & WOMEN OF TOMORROW

Sitting alone in this empty room, I write these words
Provoking thought, leading to positive change, I will be heard
By a multitude of people, who I’m sure will soon agree
This world isn’t about them and it certainly isn’t about me
It’s about the children who need our guidance and our love
Give them protection, love and affection for they are gifts from above
Bestowed upon us, which is why we must keep the love flowing
So as I live, I constantly give through the words in my poems
We should lead by example; for it’s our examples they will follow
To each we must teach for they are the men & women of tomorrow.

When I Look In The Mirror I See

WHEN I LOOK IN THE MIRROR I SEE

When I look in the mirror I see
A person who can accomplish anything staring back at me
I can climb Mount Everest if only I chose to
I work hard and pray everyday because I am suppose to
I’ve got the strength and courage to gain the wisdom I need
With God’s help and the belief I have in myself, I’ll always succeed
Regardless of the challenge or the obstacle before me
In my mind’s eye I can’t help but see that image staring back at me
The image is a reflection of an individual whose potential has no limit
If overcoming life’s adversities is a race, then you can believe I’ll win it
This is how I perceive the image in the mirror to be
I am so very happy that the image of which I speak, is an image of me.
