Parades

PARADES

If I were to take the day off because my favorite contestant won the biggest prize on the most popular game show, wouldn’t the average person consider me crazy? I agree. So with that in mind, I guess it would be easy to understand why I think it is absolutely insane to take a day off to celebrate a hometown sports team winning a championship. Particularly when 99% of the team are multi-millionaires. I think the team and its owners should throw a parade in our honor for being such loyal fans. Saturday or Sunday would be a good day.

                                                                                                                                written by

It's Hard To Take You Seriously

IT'S HARD TO TAKE YOU SERIOUSLY

It's hard to take you seriously when I know you treat life as if its a joke
It's hard to take you seriously when you can't even remember the promises you broke
It's hard to take you seriously when you say you could do something but never bother to prove it
It's hard to take you seriously when you say you know how I feel about something and you never even been through it
It's hard to take you seriously when you say you really, really care for me

It's hard to take you seriously when you have never shown you'd be there for me
It's hard to take you seriously when towards me you continually show neglect
It's hard to take you seriously when in my faith in God, you simply have no repsect.

The Key To Happiness

The Key To Happiness

In order for us to unlock our own happiness, we must all realize that we hold the key
That’s why I can’t deny that I can now confide that the joy I search for is within me
No longer will I wait for others to accept and appreciate me for I am
I consider it their lost if they can’t understand that I am a damn good man
A man who encourages others to forgive and at times even to forget
To live their lives in a way so that towards the end of the day, it is not filled with regret
Writing words that are enlightening when they are heard truly makes me happy
I am so glad I found the key within me; now I can show it for the world to see.

The Man That I Am

The Man That I Am

Being the man that I am in this great land
I know that my existence is part of God’s plan
So when I can help others through writing, I do it because I can
In the dark my words provide lighting, so all may see to understand
That we are all here for a moment, seems like a short life span
We should spend our time encouraging and uplifting our fellow man.

Do well and be well my Brothers and Sisters

The Evolution Theory VS. Holy Bible = No Contest

The Evolution Theory VS. Holy Bible = No Contest

When I think about some of the lessons I learned in school at a young age, I can’t help but think about certain topics. The topic that I really thought was a waste of time was the Evolution Theory.  You know the theory of which I am referring to. The one that says man evolved from monkeys and gorillas over thousands of years.

I also think about the times we went to Sunday school. I remember learning about Adam & Eve. We were taught that God created man and then from Adam’s rib, he created a woman. The Holy Bible never stated nor implied that God made monkeys or gorillas and called them men and women. The Holy Bible specifically says “God created man in his image”.

There are plenty of learning institutions that still teach this theory as fact. What amazes me most is that some of those same institutions also have Bible study as part of the required curriculum.

I not only have a strong disbelief in the Evolution Theory but I also believe those who teach and believe in it can’t possibly believe in the Holy Bible. You see the fact is the Evolution Theory directly contradicts the book that is sacred to all Christians. I am a Christian. With that in mind, I must proudly say, “I believe in the Holy Bible”…………… What do you believe?

The Last Conversation

THE

LAST
CONVERSATION

I once had a conversation with a young man who was heading down what I believed to be the wrong path. Although I had never seen him use drugs, the signs were as obvious as the sun setting on the most beautiful of days. It was sad to see the light diminish from eyes that were so bright with potential.

On a warm summer day, I decided I would try to make a difference in his life any way I could. I decided I wouldn’t give up on him just as my loved ones never gave up on me. Though I’ve never used drugs, I too was headed down the wrong path. Fortunately a detour called unconditional love intervened and I believe I’m back on the road to a full productive life.

The next time I saw the young man, I asked him if he had a moment to spare. He said “sure, why not”. So we sat down and began to talk about sports and the neighborhood.

Eventually the conversation changed to something a lot more serious. We began to talk about life. We also spoke about things we’d like to accomplish. I had him right where I wanted him. He was finally thinking about the future. His future.

This is what was said during the last part of the conversation:

Emerson: If you had twenty dollars and I only had one dollar, would you gamble with me?
Young man: no! of course not!
Emerson: why not?
Young man: because I’ve got more to lose than you.
Emerson: oh, I see. Do you value your life more than you value your friends?
Young man: of course I do. Their just people I hang out with. So of course my life is more important to me. I’ll always love myself more.
Emerson: I’m glad to hear you say that.
Young man: what’s up with all these weird questions? I mean like exactly what are you trying to say.
Emerson: actually you said it all.
Young man: There you go again. Would you please get to the damn point. I don’t have time to sit here and try and figure out what you mean.
Emerson: You don’t have to figure out what I mean. You already know.
Young man: look I’m outta here, I told you I don’t have time for this stuff right now. I have to go pick up something for mom.
Emerson: o-k, o-k wait I’m sorry… Look you did say that you wouldn’t gamble with me because you had more to lose than me?
Young man: Yeah!  So for the last time, what the hell is your point???
Emerson: Young man didn’t you say you value your life more than you value the lives of the friends you get high, I mean hang out with? Because if that’s what you said, then I’m sure you must think you have more to lose than them. I mean after all, your smart enough to not gamble with me when I had only a dollar to lose. I’m also sure that you realize that you are gambling with your life when you smoke; I mean hang out with your friends. It’s a gamble. Though you don’t see it now, you are definitely losing. The fact is, you will not survive if you keep doing what your doing.
Young man: look I have to pick up something for mom. I should have picked it up already. Are you finished yet?
Emerson: Yeah…Yeah, I’m finished. I just hope your not.
Young man: Alright man. I guess I’ll see you later then.
Emerson: Yeah, Peace.

I knew the young man didn’t have to pick up anything for his mother. His mother had long been deceased for for a short time now. He had forgotten the fact that I attended her funeral a few months earlier.

Unfortunately, I was right in my suspicion that the young man was in fact going to satisfy what had started as a weekend habit but has now evolved into a daily addiction.  I suspected but I could do nothing to stop him. His desire to do whatever he wanted do to was greater than my ability to stop him.

The young man was later found lying face down in the street unconscious. When I arrived on the scene, he was barely breathing. Though I’m not a doctor I checked for a pulse. If there was one, I couldn’t find it.

When the paramedics arrived, they performed CPR. It was too late. They covered him from head to toe. The young man was pronounced dead at exactly 5:36pm.. The official cause of death was drug overdose.

I am still trying my best to forget the look on his face when we found him in the street. It was almost as if at the end he was thinking about the same thing I’ll never forgot.
I believe he was thinking about… The Last Conversation.

Drunk Driving

“DRUNK DRIVING”

You’re a drunk driver on the highway
In your lane, you cannot stay
You see you went out and then you drank a lot
You saw red light and you didn’t stop
Cause you were going too fast, your car began to swerve
You ran a red light and hit a little girl
Police arrived but you weren’t there
You left the scene like you didn’t care
But in reality you didn’t realize
The consequences when you drink and drive
So you take another sip to get you home
You get there and you’re all alone
So you fall asleep until the very next day
What went on? you cannot say
You just over the sink throwing up
And now you wish you hadn’t drank so much
You’re stomach is saying pop pop, and fizz fizz
You need relief and you need it quick
The next thing you know there’s a cop at your door
He said, “Where were you the night before”?
Well you were surprised so you tried to lie
You told him a story he did not buy
And so he charged you with hit and run
Now a little girl’s life is done
So don’t drink and drive, and don’t drive and drink
Alcohol affects the way you think.

Life & Love

Life & Love

Its amazing how some people think you are smart sometimes and then try to play you for a fool
That's like trying to convince a person how book smart someone is when you know damn well they never went to school
One day they need advice, then the next day they think they know it all
If telling ridiculous lies is a phone, they are constantly making prank calls
Those are the type of people who never respected you regardless of what they say
Though it hurts at first, their true feelings for you were always on display
Then again, everything that feels good isn't always good for us
It's a fact that when we step back we realize certain things are a must
When "I" never turns into "we", it's a hint and a half for that ass
It should be an obvious clue to me and you that a relationship will never last
Therefore, It's time to go your separate ways, starting today
No shame, just not interested in the games; no longer willing to play
Though life and love is a game and it has always been
It's true that some people don't know the rules which makes it harder to win
So they sit on the side lines and never really get in the game
Life and love wasted, no one but themselves to blame; simply put, what a shame.

Bring On The Rearations

Bring On The Reparations

We were stolen from the villages of Africa and brought to this land
We were brought though we fought while being dragged in the sand
In route to and loaded on something we now call a slave ship
Shackled like cattle by a bunch of hypocrites
In the darkest of nights and roughest of seas
I wont deny they tried to strip us of our dignity
They raped my mama, my sister yet they called us niggers
We worked in the hot sun while they held guns with their fingers on the triggers
We had no shoes on our feet and most times nothing to eat
Still expected to work even though our feet hurt we got beat
By some man I didn’t know or like because he just raped my wife
In front of my children, now I have to kill him if it takes the rest of my life
I won’t tell anyone else because it’s a vow I made to myself
When I get the chance, I’ll change this man by making my presence felt
Not with violence but in silence, I’ll use the knowledge I’ve acquired
To extinguish the racist views he spews, yes I’ll put out the race fire
And since it’s my prerogative to stay positive as I live in this twenty first century
Though some didn’t expect, I choose to give respect by honoring my forefather’s memory
And since knowledge is power, I’ll use it to devour the souls of all racist people
I wont claim to be superior just not inferior you see I believe all men are created equal
So you need not fear me but you do need to hear me when I say stop the procrastination
Your ancestors the molesters, though long gone were wrong you know, so bring on the reparations!

She Said

She Said.......

She said she loved you when she knows in her heart she lied
She said she'd be different when she knows she never tried
She said she missed you when you left but instead tears of joy she cried
She said she only wanted you but her feelings for another she would always hide
She said she wanted you to tell her everything but in you she would never confide
She said she thought you were her equal but superiority is what she felt inside
She said she hoped you'd live forever together although she knows her feelings died
She said she would feed your needs because support is what she could provide
She said she'd be fresh air if it needs to be applied, instead she's carbon dioxide
She said she would be a friend til the end but once again, she has lied.

Teach The Youth

Teach The Youth

We must try to teach the youth and above all understand
That if hatred rules in the schools, it will ultimately rule man
Our children are caring guns and killing nuns for fun
Yes, mean at sixteen and sentenced to the maximum
Thrown in jail because we failed to teach them right from wrong
All day long singing a song, lifting weights to make their bodies strong
Their fantasizing, not realizing that it’s the mind that’s out of shape
Since learning leads to earning, pick up the books kids drop the weights
But children don’t understand, they’re just trying to be the man
But what they perceive to be a man is really much less than

It’s the epitome of stupidity, we need not be confused
When the trust put in us we simply choose to abuse
A sad sign of the times when we glorify crime
Cause unlike fine wine it gets worse with time

If children loved their reflection it might change their perception
It’s guaranteed to lead them in a positive direction
But sometimes we get fed up but we just can’t let up
Speak the truth to the youth say “keep your head up”
If we search in the church we’ll find the ultimate goal
To pray everyday will help cleanse our soul
If we believe we can achieve if we enhance the picture
With the word that is heard when one reads from the scripture.

Crash And Burn

Crash And Burn

Some people always seem to stay on our mind
When the truth is, they really aren't worth our time
Though I really believe we are in no way better than any man
It is clear to me that certain people are better left alone, now I understand
You see certain people misinterpret compromise for weakness in some form
Perhaps it is because it is not a everyday thing, no it simply isn't the norm
That misinterpretation is a sad mistake to make, yet many of us do
The sad part is, we know not what we do, we simply haven't got a clue
So we continue being the same and the lies remain the same
Then for some strange reason we expect the outcome to change
Well, this time the outcome changed for all eternity you see
As of today, I am proud to say, thoughts of certain people no longer consume me
I wont say the politically correct thing like, "I truly wish them well"
That is just another lie that I am simply not willing to tell
Nor do I yearn for them to crash and burn but I do hope they learn
That when they cause pain, they too must feel pain; eventually it will be their turn

We All Have A Place

 WE ALL HAVE A PLACE

Children are without a doubt God's gift to us
Nourish them encourage them; yes, I feel we must.
Teach them discipline; teach them all we know
Until it comes natural from within so as a race we'll all grow
I speak not of the black or white race but of the human race
On this earth for what it’s worth, I feel we all have a place

We must all realize children wont learn on their own
So each day of their lives they too must be shown
How to always respect thyself and love the man in the mirror
Do the same with everyone else then perhaps it’ll be clearer `
That if the concept in this poem is bought then taught
Then perhaps my friend we can end this war being fought.

A True Friend

                           A TRUE FRIEND

A true friend does not judge someone he considers a friend
A true friend is always there to lend support to someone he considers a friend
A true friend always has the best interest at heart for someone he considers a friend
A true friend will never betray the secret of someone he considers a friend
A true friend stresses the importance of faith to someone he considers a friend
A true friend always respects the privacy of someone he considers a friend
A true friend is there in time of need for someone he considers a friend
A true friend is always happy, never jealous of someone he considers a friend
A true friend not only hears from but also listens to someone he considers a friend
A true friend will be there till the end for someone he considers a friend.

Trying To Get A Rep

Trying To Get A Rep

I spit words you try to deny you heard from me, an urban poet
You’re conscience gets the best of you, your actions now show it
You’ve got your finger on the trigger to make your rep bigger
But you body begins to quiver because you know you can’t deliver
Trying to act like you hard, trying to play God when you are no better than me
You think you rough and tough now that hand-to-hand combat is obsolete in the street
If you think you got the biggest gun son trust me, you don’t want none
Cause he got a sawed-off shottie, caught a lot of bodies, you better run
Trying to play the game of life right? But you don’t even know the rules my brother
Perpetrating a fraud, trying to act raw as you break the law trying to impress another
You need to put the gun down and throw your hands up if you think you tough
Cause all this bloodshed is making my eyes red with tears, think there has been enough?
I remember back in the day we would all play and the stories we would tell
I get pissed as I reminisce about what momma use to say as I sit in my jail cell
As I stare at the skies, tears roll from my eyes as I’m wishing I had listened from the start
It’s a fact that I can’t go back; I can’t take that bullet out of that man’s heart
I’ll never again see my children or wife because I’m serving life with no chance of parole
My actions on that one night ruined my life now I’m begging the lord to heal my soul.

A Mother's Anguish

A Mother’s Anguish
Though it’s no longer the latest sensation sweeping the nation
The drug called crack still sends negative vibrations
It’s just a potent form of cocaine
Feels twice as nice when it reaches your brain
When it reaches your brain it feels like you are on cloud nine
You don’t want to come down because you feel so fine
So you run down to the corner of your block
You're on your way to the nearest crack spot
When you get there you pull a five, ten or twenty
Cause when you want a good thing, you got to have plenty
So now you're on your way home to smoke the crack
Not realizing, it’s your brain it attacks
So you smoking it till the break of dawn
You smoke the crack until all is gone
When all is gone your eyes run water as if they were rivers
Your now wondering what is going wrong as your body starts to quiver
Your mouth is dry as you are coming off the high now you want more crack
Your dealer says, you’re like a stray cat he once fed; you keep coming back
All because you hung out, now you’re strung out and it’s your habit he’ll feed
And since he is on the devil’s level he’ll give you whatever you need
You think he’s your friend but then he doesn’t pretend
To care about the fact that you’re eight months pregnant and your carrying twins within
Because you didn’t listen when you were warned, your kids are deformed
Now you’re sad as you sit in rehab, wishing you had listened before they were born.

Child Abuse

CHILD ABUSE
If you’ve suffered physical abuse as a child
You were probably confused as a child
You were all alone to fend for yourself
You could tell no one, so you spoke to yourself
You probably asked yourself why me, why me?
Since why me means why not he or she, you no longer ask why me?

Night after night you cried yourself to sleep
And night after night you awoke from that sleep
In a cold sweat, still crying and shaking
Trying to forget about the dream but you can’t stop shaking
The violent beatings in the dreams seemed so real I even hurt
Not just physically but emotional as well I hurt

Why does he hit me repeatedly with any object in sight?
Does he really mean it when he says, “ Get out of my sight”?
I have evil thoughts of my own, like I wish he were dead
For sure I wouldn’t have to endure these beatings if he were dead
But would the nightmares end when his life ends? Or will they continue?
Will I always be afraid to go to sleep for as long as my life continues?

He has now passed on and I am now a grown man with many issues
The physical and emotional abuse I endured is at the root of my issues
If I had one wish granted, my roots would be re-planted and showered with love
I’d have more self-confidence and intelligence; for those qualities emanate from love
At least that is what I hear because I’ll never know what it is to be loved by another
He told me he loved me too; thus I am confused; I no longer want to be loved by another.

Stars

STARS

The stars in the sky illuminate with such beauty
I can see them every night, yet they always seem new to me
I ‘m often amazed as I gaze at the stars twinkling in the night
There’s so many ways I give praise and all of them right

The beauty I behold is that of an empty space
I’m a part of this darkness thus the smile on my face
For I’m part of creation and I am a star in my own right
Like the stars in the skies, I too will shine bright

Deep within us all there is a star waiting to shine
While you search for yours, I’ve discovered mine
So now I appreciate the beauty of the stars for they are
No longer new to me, just true to me, that we all possess a star.

Poetry From A Dead Man

Poetry From A Dead Man

I would climb the highest mountain in search of the truth
I would drink from the fountain if it restored my youth
I would then travel a different road, thereby changing where I am today
I would appreciate all beauty my eyes behold if only I had my way
But hindsight is always twenty-twenty or so I’ve heard before
And if I could, I would change plenty; I’d be different that’s for sure
I would lead by example for I realize it’s my example some would follow
I’d take heed to the words of the proverb; never put off what you can do today till tomorrow
At sunrise I’d start my exercise routine to make my body stronger
Yes at mornings first light I’d start my day right so that I may live longer
I’d live everyday as if it were my last for it may very well be
I wouldn’t dwell on the past or the lies some people tried to sell me
If only I had a chance to live life all over again
Perhaps I’d find romance; perhaps I would even have friends
But instead I lay in the dark and I must admit I think often
About the attack that stopped my heart as I lay in this coffin.

A Homeless Man’s Faith

A Homeless Man’s Faith

As I awake from a good-night's rest, I can’t help but see people staring at me
Is it because I lay on the ground downtown that they are glaring at me?
I haven’t had a shower in weeks and a home cooked meal is a thing of the past
Shelter is what I now seek as people stare at me as they walk; some slow, some fast
Some look with sorrow in their eyes and some look surprised, I can tell
A homeless man is what I am and some can’t take the smell
I would bathe every night because it’s right if only I had a place to call home
It doesn’t have to be as cool to this dude as the condo in the Pocono’s I once owned
It was only a year ago, two years before my mortgage was to be paid off
I walked into work, got my feelings hurt when told I was being laid off
Though I didn’t expect it, I had no choice but to accept it
Now as I struggle to live; I beg others to give, who could’ve expected it
My savings have been depleted, because my boss decided to downsize
But my soul hasn’t been defeated as a matter of fact, I’m on the rise
You see you can’t keep a good man down and a good man is what I am
So says the man above who has shown me love; though some don’t understand
Why I still believe he guides and provides for me, though I now live in the streets
My faith in him as a friend comes from within because he is a part of me
Yes even in the face of adversity he will always come first to me that I’ll never deny
I am never alone because to me God has shown he’s always at my side
So as I pray every night, I try to live right to change the way in which I live
I’ll get a chance to change my circumstance and it’s an opportunity only he can give.

The Children

The Children

Children in our streets are starving to death
We've got to find a way to improve their health
Now, I don’t know how it started in the first place
But I know, that there is a way
That we can lend a hand to supply what they need
For we are the fruit; they are the seed
So people in the world, let’s join the fight
Together we can help keep their dreams alive
You see the children of today are the leaders of tomorrow
So let’s set a good example for them to follow
Let’s teach them to help one another
And love each other as if they were brothers
And just maybe, we will see
The whole world live in peace & harmony
